Forensic & Medico-Legal Assessments
Forensic Psychological Assessments & Expert Witness Services
Specialist psychological assessments and expert witness reports for criminal, family, civil, and parole proceedings. Instructed by solicitors, case managers, and public bodies across the UK, Cayman Islands, and Bermuda. We are expanding our practice across Caribbean UK Overseas Territories.

Overview
Psychological expertise where the stakes are high.
inMind Psychological Services provides forensic psychological assessments and medico-legal reports for court proceedings, parole hearings, sentencing, and civil claims. Our work is instructed by solicitors, case managers, and public bodies, and meets the standards required for use in legal and quasi-judicial proceedings.
Dr Larissa Johnson has extensive experience working across criminal, family, and civil jurisdictions, with particular expertise in complex trauma, PTSD, personality difficulties, and presentations that have not responded to standard intervention. She brings a formulation-led approach to forensic assessment — one that contextualises behaviour and presentation within an individual's history rather than reducing it to diagnostic labels.
We understand that the cases referred to us are often the ones that don't fit neatly elsewhere. We are experienced in working with complexity.

Who we work with
We accept referrals from:
Solicitors & barristers
We accept instructions for expert witness work from solicitors only. All reports comply with the procedural rules of the relevant court. We are experienced working within both defence and prosecution-instructed contexts.
Case managers & rehabilitation professionals
We work alongside case management companies supporting individuals where complex trauma (including PTSD and CPTSD), attachment difficulties, or emotionally complex presentations are affecting engagement or recovery. We offer both assessment and formulation to clarify presentation and guide intervention.
Public bodies & justice agencies
We have provided psychological assessments for public bodies including His Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service — HMCIPS (Ministry of District Administration and Home Affairs), the Bermuda Ministry of Justice, and have been instructed as an independent psychologist in cases before the UK Parole Board. Referrals from probation services, social services, and other statutory bodies are also considered.
Employers & HR
For return to work assessments in frontline and justice sector roles across all jurisdictions we serve. We provide an independent psychological assessment and written report suitable for HR and occupational decision-making.
How to instruct us
The assessment process.
Straightforward to instruct. Here is what to expect from first contact to final report.
Initial enquiry
Contact us via the enquiry form or email with a brief outline of the case, the jurisdiction, and the type of report required. We will respond within 48 working hours to confirm availability and whether the case falls within our scope.
Quotation
We will provide a fee quotation based on the type of report, jurisdiction, and complexity of the case. Fees vary depending on these factors and will be confirmed in writing before any work begins.
Letter of instruction
For expert witness work, we require a formal letter of instruction from the instructing solicitor before assessment begins. For parole and pre-sentencing reports, instructions come via the relevant commissioning body. If legally aided, written confirmation of funding approval must be received before we commence work.
Documentation and records
We will confirm what documentation we require — this typically includes relevant medical, psychiatric, or social care records, previous reports, and any relevant court documents. Receipt of complete documentation affects our ability to complete a comprehensive assessment and should be provided promptly.
Assessment
Assessment is conducted via secure video call unless in-person attendance is required by the court or commissioning body. Assessment typically involves one or more clinical interviews and, where indicated, psychometric testing.
Report and turnaround
Parole reports are typically completed within four weeks of receiving all necessary documentation. Expert witness and pre-sentencing reports are agreed on a case-by-case basis depending on complexity and court deadlines. We will confirm an expected turnaround at the point of instruction.
